How does the body learn movements? What form does the body take in different movements? Does a dance change the person that dances? What is the unique expression and the forms of each different dance?
These questions were the starting point for my research. At a dance school in Montpelier, Vermont, USA , I drew the students in movement. I wanted to capture on paper what I saw during the different dance classes.
The challenge was to draw quickly and spontaneously, along with the dancers; to reach for the movement itself – the flow of the movement, the style of the dance, the energy and attitude expressed by the dancer in the very moment.
